The EUFEPS Course Catalogue is set up in a simple way. You can browse through the entire database, make a selection using the filter system or use the search function. By clicking on a course title you'll get more information on this course, including a short description, the organizers, venue etc. Also a deep link is provided to the site of the course organizer. The catalog is kept up to date by the suppliers of the different courses. In the near future courses can be added via a course submission form.
Filter system
The filter system allows you to make a selection in the course catalogue. You can filter on 'categories', on geographic location (country and city) and on target group.
Courses in the catalogue are categorized in four main categories (Therapeutic areas, Enabling Technologies, Methodology, and Auxiliary skills). Each of these main categories are divided in a series of sub-categories. If you are looking for example for courses on 'Bioinformatics', use the filter in the main category 'Enabling technologies' to select the sub-category 'Bioinformatics'. You can narrow down your selection further by selecting one of the sub-categories in one of the other three main categories. Courses have now been categorized by the builders of the catalogue, in the next couple of months the suppliers of the courses are asked to categorize the courses themselves.
Using the 'country' filter you can select the courses in the catalogue which are being given in, for example, Denmark. You can also filter on 'city' where the course is being given. Note that we listed major cities only. For example, Oegstgeest (a small town in the Netherlands next to Leiden is listed as 'Leiden').
The target groups are divided in courses targeted primarily at 'PhD students', 'Post-Docs', 'PhD students and Post-Docs' and 'All researchers'. The catalogue only includes courses on a post-graduate level. Courses run in different Post graduate Master programs (executive education) are listed in the target group 'All researchers'.
Search function
Using the search function will result in a list of all courses which contain the entered search string somewhere in the information of this course, including the detailed description, venue etc.
Information updates
Each course entry in the database includes an emailaddress (not visible for the public) of the course coordinator at the organizing university or institution. Every six months an automatic email is sent for each course in which the course data is included. The course coordinator is asked in this email to check the information and approve that this information is up to date. If there is no response from the course coordinator after some reminders, a course will be automatically deleted from the database.
(Currently, a first run to check all course entries is underway. This implies that some information may not be completely correct. In the coming weeks the quality will improve, and when the first updating run is finished, the disclaimer will be removed.)
Submitting a course
Once the system is up and running, the course submission function will be activated. Then, everybody can submit a course. After a manual check if the submitted course meets the objective quality criteria, the course is added to the database and made visible.
