Aim
This practical course illustrates the use of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS) in proteomic research. Focus is on protein identification and characterization, based on peptide mass fingerprinting (MS) and ion fragment analysis (MS/MS), and includes hands-on experience with different techniques for peptide derivatization and coupling of liquid chromatography to MALDI (LC-MS/MS). Various issues related to proteome analysis, such as protein quantification and characterization of post-translational modifications, are also covered. Possible option to run student's own samples during the course.
